Scot Byrd | Cinematic Pop Rock Artist EPK & Media

Official Biography

SCOT BYRD is an Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter, music producer, and entertainment entrepreneur whose multi-decade creative journey spans the worlds of music, theater, and cinema. Raised in a house where his mother’s passion for opera rattled the roof, Byrd was performing by age five. His early formative years were steeped in diverse performance spaces, from singing at Red Rocks Amphitheater with the Colorado Children’s Choir to touring Europe as a teenage chorister and rhythm guitarist. His artistic foundations grew remarkably eclectic, shaped just as much by classical opera training as by the gospel choirs and Stravinsky pieces he performed in while living and going to school in the Texas Panhandle.

Byrd’s obsession with narrative eventually led him to the West Coast, where he earned a BFA in Acting from CalArts and an MFA in Screenwriting from the UCLA Film School. Though his career path transitioned into Hollywood film production, public relations, and marketing, his scripts always maintained a heavy musical pulse.

Now operating from his private production studio in Austin, Byrd has synthesized his background in marketing, screenwriting, and music into his highly anticipated debut album, Explorer One. A literal child of the Space Age—born on the precise day the U.S. launched its first satellite into orbit—Byrd channels his lifelong fascination with science fiction into a sweeping, story-driven collection of rock sub-genres, ranging from progressive and yacht rock to retro synth-pop.

Introducing the album is the lead single, "Halo," a driving, atmospheric New Wave dance tune centered on alien first contact. Originally penned by Byrd in 1978 following Devo's ground-breaking SNL performance and the release of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” the track was a longtime favorite at open mics and parties. Reimagined with modern production that echoes the pioneering New Wave artistry of Devo and Talking Heads while preserving its original, tongue-in-cheek youthful enthusiasm, "Halo" serves as the perfect sonic launchpad for Byrd's independent record label and his evolutionary step as a self-produced recording artist.

AUSTIN RETRO-FUTURE ARTIST SCOT BYRD ANNOUNCES DEBUT SCI-FI SINGLE "HALO" FOR JUNE 12, TIMED WITH SPIELBERG’S DISCLOSURE DAY

AUSTIN, TX — Independent singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-disciplinary storyteller Scot Byrd has released his highly anticipated debut single, "Halo." The track’s global premiere intentionally corresponds with the theatrical debut of Steven Spielberg’s new UFO sci-fi blockbuster, Disclosure Day. Merging Devo’s synth-punk stylings with the art-pop sensibilities of Talking Heads, "Halo" serves as the atmospheric vanguard for Byrd’s upcoming sci-fi concept album, Explorer One.

"Fusing a sci-fi inspired indie folk rock narrative with the aggressive, jagged architecture of synth punk and the cerebral, avant-garde elegance of an art-pop sensibility is a spectacular structural triumph... a towering main character masterpiece that feels completely fresh, empowering and alive."
